Q:1Max Pen: Could you tells us a bit more about yourself so the readers know who you are?
KoZ: My name is Shaun and I’m a 21 year old from New Jersey. My passions and hobbies are art, coding, and games.

Q:2Max Pen: How did you get into graphic design and eventually web design? What has been the hardest so far of both?
KoZ: Art has always been my passion, but it was until 4 years ago that I actually start taking digital art seriously. It started with me designing signatures and avatars for people on forums then it eventually evolved into people suggesting that I try for website design. Next thing I know I have 2 fully developed website PSDs and I enjoyed every minute I spent designing them. Each aspect of website design is hard. When it comes down to the details of the design and the complexity of the code, you can’t really tell which one is harder.

Q:3Max Pen: Which do you enjoy the most doing and why?
KoZ: I enjoy both aspects of web development. When it comes down to graphics design and coding I find them both equally fun. They’re both a hobbies of mine, so I wouldn’t be able to choose between the two.

Q:4Max Pen: What is the story behind your username Koz?
KoZ: When I was little I use to hang around a bunch of lan centers that were nearby my home. My friends and I would be there for hours after school was over for the day just playing games and enjoying ourselves. One day we had a competition with the game Counter-Strike and my buddy and I were tearing apart the other team. A guy in the cafe randomly yelled out, “This kid KoZ is such a hacker!” and people in the cafe started referring me to me as KoZ. The name sort of stuck after that day and people have been calling me by that name since then.

Q:5Max Pen: You mention your hobby is art, what art did you make so far or like from others?
KoZ: The type of art I make is called chibis. Chibi art is a form of turning someone into an anime like character that’s small and cute. Since I’m a huge otaku this type of art is my biggest interest.

Q:6Max Pen: When and why did you make the switch from a hobby designer to one who charges cash for making something?
KoZ: I’ve never really given up doing websites as a hobby. I still develop free websites for those who need them. I have, however, opened up my open freelancing business where I do make designs for small businesses or individuals in order to get some pocket money.

Q:7Max Pen: Do you wish to do this as a job, being a graphic/web designer?
KoZ: I have thought about making a career out of being a graphics designer/website developer within the near future.

Q:8Max Pen: What has been so far the hardest web design and graphic design?
KoZ: The hardest project I took on was for a small restaurant business near my home. I’m a close friend of the owner and he heard that I was starting to freelance, so he hired me on as a designer for his restaurant’s home page. He had me design and code things that I never thought I would be capable of doing. I managed to finish the website within a weeks time and left that job with new found knowledge.

Q:9Max Pen: What has been the hardest thing to master or learn so far in graphic design?
KoZ: The hardest thing to master in graphics design has to be the pen tool in Photoshop. I use to always think that the pen tool was bad since it was hard to use, but once I mastered the art of the pen tool it’s made my life as a web designer that much easier.

Q:10Max Pen: If you had to describe your work in 5 words, which would those words be?
KoZ: Innovation, Creativity, Enjoyable, Relaxing, and Valuable.

Q:12Max Pen: You are also into gaming, what games have you played of late?
KoZ: The latest games that I’ve played are Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3. Guild Wars 2, still being in beta, has appealed to me in so many ways. I enjoy the amazing world that the game has to offer along with the great gameplay. Diablo 3 has been journey for me. The game has its ups and its downs, but at the end of the day it’s still enjoyable to a certain extent.

Q:13Max Pen: what is your favorite genre and top 5 games of all time that you played?
KoZ: My favorite game genre has to be RPG. The top 5 RPG games I’ve played are Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, Gauntlet Legends, Champions of Norrath, Elder Scrolls Morrowind, and the Final Fantasy Series.

Q:14Max Pen: What type of coding languages do you know and what did you make so far using these coding languages?
KoZ: I currently know the languages HTML, CSS, Pawn, Python, and Visual Basics. I’m also in the process of learning Javascript and PHP. I’ve made plenty of plugins for games such as Counter-Strike and Half-Life using the languages Pawn and Python. I’ve create all sorts of website using HTML, CSS and Javascript. I’ve also created a lot of various programs using Visual Basics while taking one of my coarses in College.

Q:15Max Pen: Finally if you could alter the past online or offline, which would you choose and what scenario would you exactly change?
KoZ: There are a lot of things in the past I wish to alter, but if it weren’t for those things happening I wouldn’t be where I am today and I wouldn’t have met the great friends that have been by my side up until this day.

Thank you for doing this interview with me KoZ. I enjoyed reading your replies and I hope everyone else will to. -Max Pen
