Interview with iPhonefreak
A interview with iPhonefreak owner of Social Hut. A 14 year old kid that loves everything Apple and Steve Jobs is his hero. Find out more by reading the interview below.
/1./ Max Pen Could you tell us a bit more about yourself so the readers know who you are?
Mac: Hi everyone, as you can tell my name is Mac. I am 14, and I live in Illinois. I am a huge tech nerd and Steve Jobs is my hero. I have a sister, and I live at home with both of my parents.
/2./ Max Pen When did you first hear of the brand “Apple”? What are some of its products you own?
Mac: I didn’t hear about the brand Apple, at first. I just knew of the word “iPhone”. I remember being in Walmart when I was about 9 playing with device with a touch screen and all, but I didn’t know it was an iPhone. Then when I was 12, I got my first iPhone. It was the iPhone 3GS. I don’t even know what sparked me to want an iPhone. I loved my iPhone, but I knew little about it and I expected it to be perfect. So I joined a forum everythingicafe and they helped me. I’ve been a member there for about a year and 10 months, and I have over 12,000 posts there, so that tells how involved I am. On that site, it helped me learn so much. I soon became addicted. I currently possess an iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPod shuffle and an iPod touch, but in our entire family we have 4 iPod shuffles, 3 iPhones, 2 iPod touches, and an iPad. I have had the iPad 1 and the iPad 2.
/3./ Max Pen If you had to pick 1 product that you like the most of Apple, what would it be?
Mac: This is a tough one Max, it’s a throw down between the iPad and iPhone. The iPad is a great device for surfing forums and checking Facebook and all, wonderful for that stuff! But my iPhone helps me communicate with all of my friends via texting and calling. You can check the Internet on there but I’ve used the iPad for so long jumping displays is very hard to adjust to for web browsing.
/4./ Max Pen Why do you prefer Apple over other similar companies that offer around the same products?
Mac: Very easy. Apple was the first company to make and popularize all of this stuff. The personal computer back in 1976 with Woz and Jobs, the iPod 2001, the iPhone in 2007, the iPad in 2010. There wasn’t anything like it in the market before. And everything just works on them too. All of the software and the hardware work great together, while you find different on Android. The quality is great on apple products too, always innovative. Everyone else just copied. My goal in life is to see android burn to the ground, or have I, contribute making android die off.
/5./ Max Pen Does Apple rule for you if so why?
Mac: Apple rules for me all the way! I’d be lost without Apple! I’m always on Apple devices. It has helped shaped my life, as that’s who I’m known for, online and in real life.
/6./ Max Pen How did you get in love with Steve Jobs? What did you do or feel when he passed away?
Mac: When Steve passed, I didn’t have a strong connection like I do now, but I still had a connection. I cried, still. I got in love with Steve when he passed I guess, made me look at everything he has really done. His biography is great for anyone that wants to read it!
/7./ Max Pen What Apple products are you looking forward to?
Mac: I am excited for the iPhone 5, or whatever it may be. I am extremely bored with my 4S, and I need something new. I know the iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen, I hated that at first. But now I’m more open to it. Apple also has a TV in the works too, but I’m unsure if I would like that, as our family just bought one so I wouldn’t be able to get it. Unless they made a small one to replace the one in my room .
Because this is the last Apple question, not Steve Jobs, I’d like to say something. I see Apple fading off in a maximum of 10 years. I don’t think the current CEO can lead a team like Steve did, and Apple is turning into a regular CEO. And with Bob Mansfield retiring, that’s one less person to keep the team alive. They could be saved, that’s only if I become CEO.
/8./ Max Pen How did you get into forums and eventually owning Social Hut?
Mac: Well, it’s kinda like the iPhone story. I had my first webkinz site on a Spruz domain. That went over real well. NOT. I got bored and I closed it down. I was completely off the Internet for about 2 months. Then I joined everythingicafe and that’s when the current era of my Internet world started. I eventually started Social Hut because I wanted my own forum because I was tired of all of the bullies and unkind people on everythingicafe and I wanted to start my own chat place.
/9./ Max Pen Could you tell us how you came up with that name and why you choose the phpBB platform to power it with?
Mac: Well, it’s not that complex of that name but it’s a good name. We originally had social hub, as a hub being the center of all of the things and I choose the phpBB platform because that’s what freeforums.org used.
/10./ Max Pen What have been so far the hardest challenges on it?
Mac: Getting members! Jeez Louise it’s hard. But I am very happy with it as if rather have 20 active members then 1000 inactive. Our sites members are very active!
/12./ Max Pen If you had to look back to its past till now, what are some of the most enjoyed memories you have on Social Hut?
Mac: The most enjoyed memories on Social Hut have to involve Skyon Archer, of Tierra hosting. When I switched from freeforums.org to empirehostings I needed a tech guy as I don’t know how to code and all of that. I hired him on, and he was the guy that was going to make social hut awesome, adding modifications and such. Then he filled my dream of having my own real domain! And we also switched to Tierra hosting. Besides him, my most enjoyable memories is getting my first member I didn’t recruit over or had a post exchange with.
/13./ Max Pen Could you tell us what you are proud and not proud of on for the project Social Hut?
Mac: I am very proud of what we have gotten too so far, the members, the posts, everything. What I am not so proud of is my lack of coding skills for the site. I’d really love to learn coding, but it is difficult. Luckily I have a great person to help me. But ons more site level, rather then personal, something in not so proud of with the site is the lack of memebers, but that will come I’m sure.
/14./ Max Pen If you were given the chance, would you trade your life if it would bring back Steve Jobs?
Mac: Heck no. I value my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Plus, if I was dead, how would I enjoy Steve then?
/15./ Max Pen Finally, if you could alter your past online what would scenario would you change and why?
Mac: It would be everythingicafe, as I had a huge fight with one of the adults, and she was not willing to accept the fact that she was wrong, and I know she was wrong. But now all of the members there dislike me, and have threatened me. But ever since my activity there has went down, the whole site just kinda went to pooh, activity is down and everything.
Thanks for doing this interview with me Mac. I enjoyed your replies and I hope everyone else will enjoy them to. -Max Pen
